When a new island is discovered societies aren’t always sure what to do with it. Exploit is? Colonize it? Leave it alone? Exile prisoners and society’s miscreants to it? Kill the indigenous people? Convert them? The Island’s history of this is unclear. Some say if vampires, werewolves, the sort, were discovered they were left with no means of ever escaping The Island. Other venture that such creatures came to live in peace, without the worry of humans. But humans also came.
Slowly clans began to appear and differences spread amidst people who once commonly united to survive the elements. However with technological advances- thriving cities and towns, Pirates bringing a sustenance and blend of new cultures, dependence and unity weakened. Differences led to fear and jealousy. And where once there was friendship a war began to stir.
It started by one rash mother. Her son happened to have been bitten by a werewolf, as such things occur when you have werewolves for neighbors. And with each new moon her lunacies were said to grow more and more pronounced, until she could no longer look upon her only child. She saw only fear- nothing remotely human in her former son. Her outcry was heard by her community and soon the werewolves were being killed off, next would be the vampires but before things got out of hand they silenced the mother.
To insure their protection a powerful vampire named Solomon turned one of the two princesses of the royal family into a vampire. While the princesses were young it was decided upon to segregate the races- all things potentially harmful to humans would go north while all the humans remained south, the east and west were no man’s land. The sister’s were divided- a separate palace built for each- one called the morning star citadel, the other the evening star palace.
But tensions grew and a war broke out. Thousands were killed on either side as both sides decided they could not live with the other. Finally as the earth turned red, the people grew tired of the war. And when The Island needed it the most a leader rose. He seemed to be a man without a home- a nomad, and a stranger to the country- rumored to be a werewolf himself, and once again he united The Island. He was known as the Black Prince.
A murder threw the island once again into chaos as the Black Prince was assassinated in his old age. The territories fell under separate rule- all of which oppressed anything different. Rumors of a Black Prince are still whispered though 400 years later hope is dwindling. Currently there is no single governing body- merely allegiances to race, or good or evil. And in a desperate and blinded attempt a powerful Witch has cursed the island so the rumored Black Prince will be unable to leave, that he must help. But with scarce resources and a curse that allows no one to leave The Island is heading quickly towards another war.
